An emotional Babsi Hansel thanked the Austrian fans for the love after the curtain came down on her international beach volleyball career at the A1 Major Klagenfurt on Thursday.

The 32-year-old announced her retirement from the sport earlier this week and her and teammate Steffi Schwaiger’s run in this year’s tournament ended with an exit in the Pool Play after a defeat to in-form Brazilians Juliana/Taiana Lima on Center Court.

“A big thank you – every year it’s great to come here with the big crowds and share the unbelievable emotions in Klagenfurt – you make it happen!” Babsi told us.

“I now want to take time out and do the things I’ve not had the time to do in the past years.

“It’s time for family and friends and to enjoy life. I’m happy I could stop playing in Klagenfurt because it’s the greatest tournament in the world!”

Thank you for the memories Babsi, and good luck – enjoy your time away from the court. You’ll be missed!
