For the second time this summer German superstars Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst tasted Swatch Major Series glory.

After their victory at the smart Major Hamburg back in June, the deadly duo scooped their sixth gold medal of an incredible season with a nailbiting 2-1 victory over Swiss duo Heidrich/Zumkehr in the final of the A1 Major Klagenfurt.

The Germans took control of a breathtaking first set with some stunning shots and Ludwig/Walkenhorst needed three attempts to finally put the set to bed, winning in incredible style 24-22 as the Swiss refused to lie down.

Heidrich/Zumkehr had struggled to find their form in previous Swatch Major Series tournaments in Hamburg, Poreč and Gstaad but they came back with a vengeance here in Austria in an enthralling second set.

It looked as though the Germans would wrestle superiority away from their Swiss neighbors but slowly but surely it was Heidrich/Zumkehr that stamped their authority on the second set.

The Sochi Open winners in May created a six-point cushion for themselves and never looked back, eventually levelling one of the most entertaining Klagenfurt finals at 1-1.

The deciding set was just as frenetic as both teams chased their golden dreams. However, it was left to the talent at the net of the irrepressible Walkenhorst to turn up the heat on the Swiss. The German blocker was in imperious form to make a monster block at 11-10 and then do the same two points later.

And that was that – yet another top place on the podium for Laura and Kira. Congratulations girls!
