Mol/Sørum storm into another Major final
The red hot form of Anders Mol and Christian Sørum continued as they stormed into their second successive Major Series final with a flawless display against Olympic bronze medalists and their bogey team Alex Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen.
The Beachvolley Vikings made it 18 matches unbeaten following their tournament titles in Gstaad and in The Hague in the past three weeks as they down the Dutch in style.
It was the Scandinavians’ first ever win against Brouwer/Meewusen having lost the four previous meetings.
But Christian and Anders are in the form of their lives – and, as they said, yesterday, if ever there was a time to end that run of defeats, it was now.
“They are our idols, we look up to them and we’ve finally beaten them to get to another final,” said a jubilant Anders after the straight sets win. “We can’t believe it and now we can’t wait to play for gold.”
Following their win over Austrians Clemens Doppler and Alex Horst, the home crowd on the Danube Island have grown fond of the young Norwegians.
“We heard that the fans always take to the team that knocks out an Austrian one, so we’re grateful for that,” added Anders.
Can the Vikings make it back-to-back Major titles? They will take on Michal Bryl and Grzegorz Fijałek for in the gold medal match at 5.30pm CEST. Watch it live on BeachStream!
