Dear Beach Volleyball Community

So far, we only knew a scenario like the current one from the fiction of various apocalypse movies. In reality, of course, none of us really have any idea how to deal with it. Only one thing unites us in this challenging time: the certainty that we have to put down everything that is not directly related to the elimination of the virus. A logical conclusion that, however, has a dramatic impact on all of us.

Experts are now predicting that the pandemic will peak in July and August. And that, in turn, means for us that currently, nobody can assume the responsibility to approach the implementation of the planned events with a clear conscience and with full conviction. After extensive discussions with the International Federation, our sponsors as well as partners and representatives from the cities of Vienna and Hamburg, we decided to cancel the two Major tournaments. And we can no longer contribute to the upgrade of the event in Gstaad.

We are sad to announce this decision. At the moment, we only have hope that the global crisis will soon subside and be under control. Then we will start the work to realize our events in 2021 with full energy and unwavering commitment.

My thanks go to everyone who has shared and supported our enthusiasm for beach volleyball over the past 25 years. I firmly believe that we will be able to provide proof of our subline again next year:

Vielen Dank, A1!

A1 commits to beach volleyball for another three years

The Beach Majors Company is delighted to announce its partnership with major Austrian telecoms company A1 has been extended for another three years.

The agreement will see A1 take the title sponsor for this year’s Vienna Major beach volleyball tournament, which takes place in the city between July 31 and August 5.

A1 will also continue their sponsorship of Austrian World Championship silver medalists, Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst, for a further year.

On the continued partnership, A1 CEO Marcus Grausam, said: “The beach volleyball major thrills sports fans every year and is one of the most important summer events in Austria.

“We all still remember the 2017 World Championships in Vienna. It is and remains an impressive proof of the quality of Hannes Jagerhofer’s events. Therefore, we are happy that we will be part of the digging & spiking in the coming years. With our technology we continue to ensure that in addition to the excellent performances on the Red Bull Beach Arena, the best technology on the event grounds will thrill the fans.

“As the event includes live videos and action photos, which are online directly from the tournament, this requires full internet power – and that’s where A1 delivers.”

Beach Majors CEO Hannes Jagerhofer is delighted with the continuation of the cooperation.

“Beach volleyball and Austria belong together, and this is to a large extent due to A1: Not only did we jointly put together the biggest beach volleyball world championship in history, but in Austria over the last 15 years we’ve built 3,000 beach volleyball courts,” Hannes said.

“Ball children, who were once able to smell the first tournament air at our events, today take part in the Olympic Games and we can look proudly on our European Champions and World Championship silver medalists in our ranks.

“Bringing the sport in Austria to such a high level and achieving these unbelievable magnitudes is only possible with an exceptional partner. I am infinitely grateful to A1 and I’m looking forward to continuing our beach partnership in the future.”

The A1 Major Vienna presented by Swatch takes place this year from July 31 to August 5 on Vienna's Danube Island.
