Bieneck/Groβner knockout Holtwick/Semmler
The A1 Major Klagenfurt has barely started, yet there has ALREADY been a shock in the women’s tournament before the main tournament gets under way.
With so many great German teams in women’s beach volleyball right now it was always going to be tough for one team: but for Gstaad Major quarterfinalists Holtwick/Semmler they fell at the hurdle in their quest for A1 Major Klagenfurt glory in the country quota.
They were beaten 2-1 in a three-set thriller by Bieneck/Groβner in what was effectively the first match of the tournament on Monday afternoon. It was the first time Bieneck/Groβner had ever beaten their countrywomen
In the two other country quota matches in our first day by the Wörthersee, there were victories for Slovenia’s Lovsin/Fekonja and Slovakia’s Dubovcova/Herelova.
All three winning teams advance to the women’s qualification round which kicks off at 10am on Tuesday – the full draw of which will be available on our website, so keep those eyes peeled.
