Women’s qualification complete
Day one of the A1 Major Klagenfurt is now over and we can’t wait for Wednesday!
But it was a great day for the Americans, as two of their teams made it through to the main draw, meaning there will be four women’s duos flying the stars and stripes tomorrow.
Day/Hochevar were the first American team through, beating Spain’s Ribera/Fernández Navarro, and they were joined by number one qualification seeds Lane/Summer following their victory on Center Court over Eiholzer/Gerson of Switzerland.
There will also be four Brazilian and four German teams in the main draw following victories for Fernanda/Josi of Brazil and Groβner/Bieneck of Germany. The Brazilian girls beat two Austrian teams to secure their passage to Pool Play while the German country quota victors beat Matic/Milosevic of Serbia in a thrilling two-set affair 27-25, 25-23.
Meanwhile there was also joy for Italy’s Perry/Giombini who qualified for the main draw for the first time via qualification with a win against France’s Jupiter/Longuet. It was a story made in the USA, too: Perry played volleyball at the University of Washington. Jupiter from France a volleyball player at the University of Southern California. How’s that for a fun fact? We do love fun facts…
The women’s main draw spring into action at 11am on Wednesday and we’ll give you a guide to who’s playing who once the Pools are decided later tonight! Watch this space…
