It was the match everyone wanted. Serve the Sky photoshoot opponents Clemens Doppler and Alex Horst will take on Anders Mol and Christian Sørum for a place in the A1 Major Vienna presented by Swatch semifinal.

Both teams got through their round of 16 matches to set-up what promises to be a mouthwatering quarterfinal clash on the Red Bull Beach Arena at 6.30pm CEST.

“It’s the duel of the Riesenrad,” said a jubilant Alex after his and Clemens’ 2-0 victory over Latvians Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins. “It’s what we were hoping for, but it would have been nicer to meet them a little bit later in the tournament.

“They for sure are the favorites, they won Gstaad and the European Championships but we’ll have the crowd behind us… so we’ll see.”

The photoshoot 65 meters in the air on top of Vienna’s iconic Ferris wheel was the first time the two sides met. Later on Saturday the teams will go head-to-head for the first time on the sand and the beach volley Vikings know they will be in for a tough game.

“Clemens and Alex are experienced players, they have the crowd with them so they have the conditions to suit,” said Christian after the Norwegians’ comeback win over Ricardo and Guto - their 16th straight victory. “They serve well and we’ll have focus on receiving and setting. But for sure we will try and find a way to beat them.”
